Yes! Kamala Harris for President! (video)
The US needs a strong warrior woman to take on the forces of darkness and hatred led by #45. Kamala Harris is that person. It's time to be fearless. We won't go back.
There has been a seismic shift in US politics in the month since I published my Grandpa Debate Substack article on July 2, 2024.
The June 27, 2024 debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump was disturbing to watch. Biden lost his train of thought and seemed confused several times. Trump spewed lies and campaign propaganda, instead of answering the questions. It was not the US Presidency’s finest hour!
Millions of Americans were in despair after that debate … including me.1
In the weeks after the debate, a wave of Democrats thanked Biden for his service and called for him to step aside as the party’s presumptive presidential nominee before the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in mid August 2024.
On July 13, 2024, a 20-year-old gun enthusiast, registered Republican and budding techie tried to assassinate Trump at an open-air rally in Pennsylvania.
Undaunted, Trump appeared several times at the Republican National Convention (RNC) the following week with his ear bandaged from the bullet wound. Riding high toward what looked like an easy November victory against “Sleepy Joe,“ he chose controversial Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as his VP and accepted the party’s nomination on July 18, 2024.
Biden Changed the Game
Three days later on July 21, 2024, Biden stepped aside from the presidential race for the good of the country and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate.
Within the first 48 hours, millions of dollars and tens of thousands of volunteers flowed into the Harris campaign. The momentum continues weeks later with several massive online fundraising events sponsored by special interest groups. Harris has jumped into campaigning with several speeches and events.
Any Democrats who were originally nervous about the chances of the nation’s first Black/Asian Indian woman presidential candidate beating the Teflon Don are now dancing in the streets with voter registration forms and volunteering to canvass.
Trump & Vance Use Racism & Sexism to Attack Harris
In less than a week, the Trump/Vance ticket went from swaggering over confidence to grasping at straws for a new strategy against a formidable opponent. Biden’s selfless act dashed their hopes for an easy victory and sent them scrambling to retool their campaign overnight.
Instead of two aging grandpas duking it out over golf scores2, the contest is now between the Felon vs the Prosecutor.
One of Trump’s first tactics was to attack Harris’ laugh. How trite. Is that all you got? That’s so 2016. Trump derided Democratic Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton for her laugh, calling it a cackle. Perhaps we should be talking about the dearth of laughter and smiles — and the preponderance of anger, hatred and fear — in the Trump/Vance campaign. At least they can’t use the usual sexist putdown “you’d be prettier if you smiled more” with Harris because she has a warm, ready smile to go with her laughter.
Trump and Vance have slid back and forth between racist comments about Harris’ racial identity (Is she Black or Asian? Which is it? Nobody knows.) and sexist comments about motherhood and “childless cat ladies”.
Harris is a Step Mom, a Fun Auntie3, a former California Attorney General, a former Senator from California and the current Vice President, who happens to be of Black and Asian Indian descent.
I think it’s brilliant that Democratic Governor and now VP candidate Tim Walz disarmed the Trump/Vance attacks by calling the campaign “weird.” They are weird. What’s wrong with laughter, cat ladies and Fun Aunties? I believe this country could use more laughter, warm smiles, purring lap cats and Fun Aunties — and less hate.
Above all, Harris is a smart, fearless warrior woman. That’s exactly what this country needs to take on the forces of darkness led by Trump, Vance and their cronies.
I’ve Liked Harris Since 2020
In 2020, in the depths of the COVID19 pandemic, I ran for reelection to the Arizona House. I was a strong supporter of Senator Elizabeth Warren4 in 2020 presidential race. When Biden became the presumptive Democratic Party nominee, other Legislators pressured me to endorse him, but I wanted to see who Biden chose for his VP before I backed him.
After Warren, Harris was my second choice for president in 2020. I was elated that Biden chose her. I did the math on his age in 2020 and wanted him to choose a young, capable vice president to step up and lead the country, if necessary. She has proven that she can do that and furthermore, she’s ready to do that.
I’m ready for a new day.
I’m with her.
We won’t go back.
Kamala Harris and her VP pick Governor Tim Walz will be in Phoenix on Friday, August 9, 2024.
I couldn’t communicate with you on Substack during much of July because my laptop crashed three times. The final blackout was on August 1, when I first recorded the Kamala Harris video (above) and tried to edit out the stumble at the beginning.
This happened during the June 27 debate.
In addition to Mom, or instead of Mom if she’s not available, there are many women in a child’s life who can help Mom or step into her role, including Step Moms, Fun Aunties, Sisters, Grandmas, Cousins and friends of the family. Children need support.
Fun fact: my Elizabeth Warren campaign video was shot on August 1, 2019, and my Kamala Harris video above was shot on August 1, 2024.
Right on Pam!
